Public Invited to Sugarhouses March 29 & 30
WATKINS GLEN - The13th Annual New York Maple Open House Weekend will be held this weekend in the Catskills, Upper Hudson, Adirondacks, Mohawk Valley, Central, Northern,
and Western regions of the state. Sugarhouses will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 29 & 30.
"We're inviting families to come and experience first-hand the sights, smells and sounds of maple sugarmaking," said David Campbell, a Salem, N.Y. producer and president of the
New York State Maple Producers Association.

All events are free and open to the public. Maple Weekend will take place rain or shine; and visitors should dress for the weather.
Across New York State, more than 100 maple syrup producers will open the doors of their sugarhouses to the public so that people can watch maple products being made and sample
freshly-made syrup.
Sugarhouses will be offering tapping and boiling demonstrations, and many producers will offer other activities for their visitors. Activities are expected to include horse
drawn wagon rides, kids corners, and walks in the woods.
Some Maple Weekend locations, or nearby community organizations, will offer Pancake Breakfasts and other maple-themed events that are also open to the public. Hours vary; and
fees may be charged.
New York State maple production, valued at over $8 million in 2006, represents about one-sixth of the total maple syrup production in the U.S. New York is the third largest
maple producing state in the nation with about 250,000 gallons produced in 2007.
